How to Set Up MetaTrader 5 Alerts with Email or SMS Notifications

Timing is everything in trading. The market does not wait, and opportunities can appear when you least expect them. That is why setting up alerts is one of the smartest things a trader can do. In MetaTrader 5, you have the ability to receive alerts not only inside the platform, but also by email or SMS. This keeps you connected and ready to act, even when you are away from your screen.

Using alerts to stay ahead of the market

Alerts in MetaTrader 5 allow you to monitor price levels, indicator conditions, or trading events without constant screen time. You can set alerts for breakouts, crossovers, or even changes in indicator values. Once triggered, the platform will notify you based on the delivery method you choose.

For traders with busy schedules, external alerts sent to an email address or phone number can make a big difference. You no longer have to miss key setups just because you are not actively watching the chart.

Setting up an alert in the platform

To create a basic alert, right-click on the chart or in the “Terminal” window and choose the “Alerts” tab. Right-click inside the tab and select “Create.” A window will appear where you can define the alert conditions.

Select the symbol, set the price level, and choose the action type. You can choose “Sound” for desktop notifications, “Email” for inbox alerts, or “Notification” to send a message to your linked mobile device.

Make sure the alert condition is clear. For example, if EURUSD hits a certain resistance level, you can trigger an alert to reevaluate your trade setup. Once saved, the alert will run in the background until it is triggered or manually removed.

Configuring email alerts step by step

To receive alerts by email, you first need to set up your email server settings in MetaTrader 5. Go to “Tools,” then “Options,” and navigate to the “Email” tab. Enter the SMTP server details, your email address, and login credentials.

Once configured, click “Test” to verify that everything works correctly. If successful, your alerts will now be delivered to your inbox whenever conditions are met. Use a dedicated email address for alerts to keep things organized and avoid mixing them with other messages.

Enabling push notifications on mobile devices

If you prefer mobile alerts, download the MetaTrader 5 mobile app and link it to your desktop terminal. Go to “Options,” then the “Notifications” tab. Enable push notifications and enter your MetaQuotes ID from the mobile app settings.

Now, whenever your alert is triggered, a push message will appear on your phone or tablet instantly. This is one of the fastest ways to stay updated, especially for short-term traders who need to act quickly.

Stay flexible without losing awareness

Trading can be demanding, but you do not need to sit in front of the screen all day. Alerts let you step away while staying informed. Whether you use email for in-depth market changes or SMS-style push notifications for rapid signals, MetaTrader 5 gives you options that support your workflow.

By using alerts smartly, you not only catch more opportunities. You also reduce stress, improve timing, and keep your strategy running smoothly no matter where you are.
